DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A park in Vermilion County is calling teachers from around Central Illinois to come learn about native birds. They’re giving them educational resources to take back and improve their classrooms.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is hosting the ENTICE workshop at Kennekuk County Park in Danville. People who sign up will learn in a classroom, participate in bird netting and see them in their natural habitat on a hike.

The park has done these types of workshops before, and there’s a reason for this year’s topic.

“Birds are one of those animals that teachers can observe outside their classroom windows,” said Environmental Educational Supervisor Lara Danzl. “I mean, they could easily hang like a bird feeder and even if they just attract some chickadees or local common birds to that bird feeder, it gives those students an opportunity to see the birds right out their classroom windows. [It] makes it an easy environmental topic to share with students.”

The workshop is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on April 26. It costs $11 to register, and you can sign up here.
