CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — Eastern Illinois University is getting $25,000 through a grant program, and this money will be given out in the form of scholarships to students.

The Earthrise Energy RISE Grant Program awarded Eastern Illinois University’s Lumpkin College of Business and Technology a $25,000 scholarship grant. This money will be used to provide scholarships to students interested in pursuing academic and career goals, the university said in a release Wednesday.

This grant program partners with local nonprofit organizations to serve communities where these companies are designed to have a long-lasting impact. Additionally, this program aims to support initiatives that better the lives of local residents with a focus on teaching, entrepreneurship and advancing STEM education.

“We greatly appreciate this gift from Earthrise Energy,” said Dr. Austin Cheney, Professor and Dean of Lumpkin College. “With the new student scholarship grant, we can provide financial assistance to students in need of additional support to begin their educational journey in Lumpkin College here at EIU.”

The mission of Earthrise Energy, according to the news release, is to decarbonize the electric grid while accelerating the country’s clean energy transition. This company is an independent power producer as well.
