SAVANNAH, Ga. — An elderly woman from Savannah, aged 83, reported that her residence was hit by over 80 bullets on Wednesday night.

Mary Ann Pickard returned to her home at approximately 8 p.m. that evening. She had just settled into her typical nighttime routine and was enjoying a snack.

Unusually, instead of occupying her usual spot in the kitchen, which faces the street, she opted to sit in a room at the back of the house. She credits this choice with potentially saving her life.

Describing the incident, Pickard recounted hearing “bang, bang” sounds coming from the front of her house. In a span of 10 minutes, more than 80 bullets shattered windows, damaged walls, destroyed picture frames, and even punctured her refrigerator.

A representative from the Savannah Police Department confirmed that the incident involved aggravated assault resulting in property damage on the 2200 block of N. Fernwood Dr. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Pickard contacted to share her story.

She said that before moving into her home four months ago, she asked a realtor about holes above the sink. She said she was told nothing and that it was possibly kids playing with BB guns.

After Wednesday night’s shooting, Pickard said neighbors told her the home had been involved in gun violence before.

“In this very yard,  someone had shot some cars,” said Pickard. “No one told me that. If you are purchasing a home that is going to be your safe haven, that’s supposed to be your safe haven.”

Pickard said she now believes the suspects were looking for a previous owner.

“You can take somebody’s life who has nothing to do with whatever the issue is,” said Pickard. “I’m not involved in anything like that.”

Pickard said the home surveillance footage she gave police shows the shots coming from across the street.

The Savannah Police Department said this investigation is ongoing. Stay with for all updates as more information is made available.
