THOMSON, Ga. () – The McDuffie County School System named Thomson High School teacher Elizabeth Hahn as its Teacher of the Year on Thursday.

Hahn, who teaches Language Arts, received the golden apple trophy at the ceremony on Aug. 28, 2025 in the Thomson High School auditorium.

According to the school system, Hahn serves on the graduation committee and the Bulldog Way committee, in addition to being a homebound teacher, debate coach, department chair and a mentor to new teachers.

Hahn, who has been with Thomson High School for nine years, has been an educator for two decades.

“I realized that I really wanted to make a difference in the lives of students in the way that
teachers were there for me,” Hahn said. “Every single year, no matter how many times I’ve read or taught a piece, there is a student that teaches me something new about that literature that I did not know. And I love that about teaching.”

Hahn will move on to represent McDuffie County in the Georgia Teacher of the Year
program.
