ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — A grand jury has indicted an Elizabethton man with a second-degree murder charge in connection with a 2024 overdose death.

According to a news release from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Charles Bradley Jones, 22, was arrested on Wednesday.

The charges stem from an investigation that started on Oct. 8, 2024, when deputies responded to a home on White Road regarding an unresponsive female.

An autopsy determined the 34-year-old woman’s cause of death as an overdose.

Jones provided the drugs to the woman, which resulted in her overdose and death, according to the CCSO.

Jones was taken to the Carter County Detention Center. As of Friday, he remains in the detention center on a $100,000 bond.

“I would like to commend my officers for their hard work and diligence in pursuing this investigation,” Sheriff Mike Fraley said in the release. “Our officers are working constantly to slow down the flow of drugs into our community and to identify and prosecute those who sell drugs. If you deal drugs, we will prosecute you. And if you sell drugs to someone who overdoses and dies, you will be held accountable for their death.”
