SAVANNAH, Ga. — In connection with the 2024 mass shooting at Ellis Square, one out of the six individuals charged has decided to accept a plea arrangement and received sentencing on Tuesday.
Cazare Cooper admitted guilt to a single charge of aggravated assault, resulting in a sentence of two years in prison, followed by an eight-year probationary period.
Initially charged on September 4, 2024, Cooper faced four counts of aggravated assault and four counts of possessing a firearm during a felony. Subsequently, his request for bail was denied.
The incident on May 18, 2024, saw shots fired in Ellis Square, leaving 11 individuals wounded. Authorities reported that the violence stemmed from a disagreement between two women.
Cooper was indicted alongside Omarre Harris, William Mitchell, Ericque Street and Jacorey Porter on a total of 19 charges that included aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm.
Jordan Jones was originally arrested as a suspect, but was later named a victim and not indicted.
The other five suspects have all been denied bond and are awaiting trial.
