SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — People taking in a movie at Savoy 16 Theatres got a show they weren’t expecting to see Tuesday night.
A fire alarm went off in the building sending Savoy fire crews to the theater. Everyone had to evacuate, and an employee told customers that they wouldn’t be opening again following the alarm.
METCAD said that the situation was just a fire alarm and there was no actual fire in the building, but that it would remain closed for the rest of the night.

“I don’t know we were just coming for $5 Tuesdays, and we saw a bunch of lights,” said movie goer Tyler Vizgirda. “I assumed it was the police, and it was going to be over with. But they shut it down and it’s kind of tragic because we really wanted to watch Star Wars.”
The Savoy Fire Department and Champaign County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call. The staff at the theater gave the people their tickets back as refunds.
