VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – You hear the engines and see the motorcycles; Bike Week is in full effect in Volusia County with hundreds of thousands rolling into town.

Scott Morse is attending Bike Week and told us, “It’s great up here. The food is great. There are vendors everywhere. Literally, there’s nothing you can’t find up in here.”

With more wheels on the roads this week, Volusia County is adding more deputies to watch for speeding, illegal driving and more.

“When you’re going down the road and there’s a car in front of you, don’t be right up on him and off to the middle. Stay back and stay to the right a little bit because if something is coming out of the road, they can see you,” Morse said.

Several in the biking community, such as German Dave, are trying to do their part to help.

“There are some people that like to drink and have a little too much, but you offered your services to help. Absolutely, I meet them at the same place where they are at. I am more than glad to take them home for free just to make sure they come home safe. Money is a good thing, but it’s not everything,” Dave said.

Roger Luznar owns the Cabbage Patch, which has been a mainstay for bikers since World War II, and says his staff is trained by the state to keep a watchful eye on anyone who’s had too much to drink.

“Every one of my bartenders has to go through that training to make this a safe event,” Luznar said.

They’ve partnered with Daytona Beverages to pay for anyone who needs to get their bike towed or a ride home.

“I want everyone at this event to have the best time in the world, just like as much as going to the theme park,” Luznar said.

Volusia County officials say Votran is also adjusting bus routes and service times during Bike Week.
