CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — This week marks the commencement of an exciting international initiative in Champaign County as an established run club sets its pace in the community.
Girls on the Run, an empowering organization dedicated to young girls, has positively impacted over 1,600 girls in the region since its inception in 2014. Targeting third to fifth graders, the program’s core mission is to foster both physical and mental growth among its participants.
Kim Clemmons, the program director, elaborated on their approach, which relies on a carefully designed, evidence-based curriculum. Meeting twice weekly, the girls engage in discussions on topics such as maintaining a positive mindset, setting achievable goals, and the importance of teamwork.
