WASHINGTON, D.C. () — This November, the American Ambulance Association (AAA) will recognize extraordinary Emergency Medical Services (EMS) professionals during the annual Stars of Life celebration in Washington, DC.

Doug Struble, CEMA District Chief of EMS

Chatham Emergency Services’ (CEMA) Doug Struble will receive the 2025 National Award for saving this year’s Keynote Speaker’s life. The patient who Doug saved will be sharing her story with over 100 Paramedics and EMTs from across the United States in the audience.

The Stars of Life Award pays tribute to the dedication of hometown heroes while shining light on the critical role EMS plays in our healthcare infrastructure.

Struble currently serves as District Chief of EMS with Chatham Emergency Services, bringing two decades of experience and leadership to the profession. He began his public safety career as a volunteer firefighter, quickly discovering a calling in emergency medical services. In 2006, Doug earned his EMT-Intermediate certification, followed by completion of his Paramedic licensure in 2008.

He developed the operational plan for Savannah’s St. Patrick’s Festival and Parade, as well as for several Rock and Roll Marathons. Doug also plays a critical role in planning and assisting residents with medical needs during hurricane evacuations.

“Doug’s devotion to both his family and his community reflects the same compassion and commitment that define his EMS career,” said Chatham Emergency Services CEO Chuck Kearns. “Our team is so proud of him for receiving this extraordinary honor.”

During their time in our nation’s capital, the Stars will receive medallions and plaques in thanks for their lifesaving and life-sustaining service. Additionally, the Stars, accompanied by their families and executive hosts, will meet with members of Congress and congressional aides to discuss policy issues critical to emergency medical services. Representative Buddy Carter intends to honor Chief Struble on the floor of the House of Representatives when he is in Washington to receive his award.
