How expensive will your barbecue be this year?

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer and many of us will celebrate with a picnic or barbecue. But will the cost of what you serve put a damper on the festivities?

As with most things these days, there is good news and bad news. You will see noticeable price increases in things like beef hotdogs, soda, baked beans, mustard and chicken thighs.

Items showing price declines are ground beef burgers, hamburger and hotdog buns and American cheese slices.

Rabobank, a global food and agribusiness bank, says 95 percent of the ingredients of the average barbecue are American-sourced.

“On the whole, Americans still spend less of our wallet on food than our counterparts in most other nations, but that gap is closing across the board,” said Tom Bailey, senior consumer foods analyst for Rabobank.

That means, for 2025, a 10-person barbecue is 4.21 percent more expensive this year than last.
