CLAXTON, Ga. () — Evans County Fire and Rescue warned residents of keeping their generators too close to their homes after two adults and four dogs were affected by monoxide poisoning.

Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, fire and EMS were dispatched to a home where a generator was too close and had the exhaust pointed towards their wall. Two people were transported from the scene and emergency services attempted to give the dogs oxygen.

Fire and Rescue said that EMS did what they could, but they are not equipped for giving animals oxygen since they require different masks. They told the owner to take them to an emergency veterinarian and attempted to call some clinics.

The condition of the pets is unknown.

They reminded residents that carbon monoxide is a silent killer and to use detectors and keep your generators away from your homes.
