AUGUSTA, Ga () – The Mayor’s Masters Reception held at Augusta Common honored the “Voice of The Masters”, Jim Nantz, who will call his 40th Master’s Tournament next week.

Jim Nantz has been in the sports industry since the 1980’s and has worked with the NFL, D1 Men’s Basketball and the PGA Tour.

Nantz announced last week that he plans to continue calling The Master’s through the 100th edition in 2036 and then hand off the microphone.

Mayor of Augusta, Garnett L. Johnson, said it’s wonderful to be able to honor not only Jim Nantz, who was not in attendance Saturday, but Via Cognitive Health as well.

“This year Jim Nantz has a very personal story to Alzheimer’s, his dad suffered from it, so we felt that it was more than appropriate to include Via Cognitive Health in this year’s celebration.”  Johnson said.

There was live entertainment by local musician Tara and the Snacks as well as Johnathan Wilson and Brandi Renae Company.

Along with entertainment there was local food vendors and finishing off with a fireworks show.

A father and daughter who are in Augusta for the Master’s Tournament are visiting some of the local spots.

Michael Martinak and his daughter Macy said, “It’s a once in a lifetime thing for a lot of people, she’s my golfer so we decided to come out here and make a trip of it. We hi the course today, we walked around, we just ate dinner, and we heard the music and decided to step over here and see what’s going on.”

While many are in Augusta for the tournament, Mayor Johnson says the reception is a great way to bring everyone together.

“This tournament extends so far beyond the boundaries of Augusta-Richmond County, and we wanted to invite the entire region out as an opportunity to come together to celebrate the beginning of Masters week just to celebrate community, so I’m more than honored to be here.” said Johnson.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Via Cognitive Health.
