The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the hunt for a new offensive mastermind, and they appear to be setting their sights on someone who knows Florida well. Former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is in the spotlight, as sources have confirmed he will be interviewing for the Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator position this Friday. This exciting development was first reported by Bucs Insider, Aileen Hnatiuk.
McDaniel, a seasoned coach with roots tracing back to an internship with the Denver Broncos in 2005, has accumulated a wealth of experience across the NFL. His journey has taken him through various roles in Houston, Washington, Cleveland, Atlanta, and San Francisco before he took on the head coaching role with the Dolphins in 2022.
McDaniel began his coaching career as an intern with the Denver Broncos in 2005, with stops in Houston, Washington, Cleveland, Atlanta, and San Francisco before becoming the Dolphins’ head coach in 2022.
Under its first season with McDaniel at the head, Miami finished sixth in total offense. The team led the NFL in offense the following year, with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throwing for a league-leading 4,624 passing yards.
Tampa is searching for a proven playcaller on offense who can help turn around the play of Baker Mayfield, who threw for a career high 4,500 yards in 2024 under then-coordinator Liam Coen. Mayfield’s production fell this past season, passing for only 3,693 yards under first-time playcaller Josh Grizzard, who was fired following the 2025 season.
McDaniel joins a list of veteran playcallers in contention for the Bucs job, including Ravens coordinator Todd Monken and Falcons coordinator Zac Robinson.
