RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. () – A former Richmond County Sheriff’s Officer jailer has been terminated from his position and arrested after an incident involving an inmate.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened on January 30th at around 5:10 P.M., and authorities say Omar Riley was involved in a use of force incident inside the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
Authorities state that an inmate was using a phone and was instructed by Riley to end the call; however, the inmate responded that he had two minutes remaining.
Authorities say after that exchange, Riley drew and discharged his taster in violation of policy and lawful use of force guidelines.
Investigators say after a thorough investigation, Riley, who had been employed with the RCSO since 2019, was terminated from his position on Monday and was arrested and transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
According to the Criminal Investigations Division, warrants were issued for Riley for misdemeanor battery and felony violation of oath of office.
