In San Diego, a significant development unfolded on Thursday as a closed-door hearing was held concerning Érik “El Terrible” Morales, a former world champion and resident of Tijuana. Morales, who has the distinction of being the first Mexican-born boxer to clinch world titles across four different weight classes, is facing serious allegations of sexual assault.
Morales’ boxing career spanned nearly two decades, from 1993 until his retirement in 2012. During this time, he achieved remarkable feats, securing championships ranging from the super bantamweight to the light welterweight categories, solidifying his legacy in the sport.
The allegations against Morales are being brought forth by a former municipal employee, who claims the assault took place during his tenure as Secretary of Welfare for the city of Tijuana in 2025. This case, now progressing through the legal system, has captured public attention, especially following its three previous postponements.
A former municipal employee is accusing Morales of assaulting her, which allegedly occurred while he served as Secretary of Welfare for the city of Tijuana in 2025.
The formal complaint was filed with the State Attorney General’s Office in July of last year, Morales was subsequently removed from his post.
The woman’s attorney is said to have requested the private hearing to protect his client’s privacy.
Morales did not address the media afterwards. When the allegations first surfaced, he denied all accusations.
