MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) — Roughly six weeks have passed since WCIA initially unveiled the issues plaguing employees at several memory care facilities in Central Illinois, who reported not receiving their paychecks on time. In response, the organization behind these facilities is undergoing a reorganization of its operations.
Back in May, WCIA brought to light the concerns of employees at Shepherd Premier Senior Living, which had acquired three locations in November, including facilities in Monticello and Charleston. Shortly after Shepherd Premier assumed control, a troubling pattern of delayed paychecks emerged, persisting into June when WCIA revisited the story.
However, a significant shift is on the horizon. Shepherd Premier announced in a news release shared with WCIA on Wednesday evening that they plan to “transition operations” for their living and memory care homes in Charleston, Robinson, and Monticello. This change will see the operational management of these facilities return to the original ownership, set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
According to officials, this decision was driven by a commitment to prioritize the wellbeing of the residents in these facilities.
“Residents come first. That is not a slogan for us — it is the rule that makes every other decision,” said Brandon Schwab, Founder and CEO of Shepherd Premier Senior Living. “We will not operate a home where we cannot meet the standard our residents and their families deserve. This transition ensures continuity of care, staffing, and daily routines while we maintain our commitment to the residents of these communities.”
Shepherd Premier added that has notified the Illinois Department of Public Health and the homes’ ownership (Arbor Rose) to “maintain continuity of care, staffing, and daily routines.” Residents and family are being contacted directly.
“Out of respect for the privacy of residents and families, SPSL will not discuss specific details of its commercial arrangement with the homes’ ownership and remains focused on a smooth, safe
transition,” Shepherd Premier added in its news release about the transition.
