ORLANDO, Fla. – Anticipation is building as Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando prepares to unveil its new animal shelter in Orlando.

The opening marks a significant milestone, nearly five years after a devastating fire destroyed their previous facility.

The blaze, sparked by an electrical malfunction, tragically claimed the lives of 17 cats.

Before this unfortunate incident, officials stated to News 6 that the shelter accommodated approximately 7,000 animals annually.

In the years following the fire, they have managed to care for only 4,000 to 5,000 animals each year, highlighting the impact of the loss on their operations.

Operations during that time have been split between the group’s Sanford shelter and a temporary shelter in Downtown Orlando.

Sunday, the new shelter will have a grand opening “pawty” at noon, with live DJ entertainment, food trucks, activities and more!

The shelter says, of course, adoptable dogs and cats will be waiting to go to their “furrever” homes.
