AUGUSTA, Ga. — Augusta is set to host a captivating afternoon of art, culture, and dialogue with an event titled Le Cafe: An Afternoon of Culture, Art and Literary Experience. Scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, this engaging gathering will take place at the Greater Mount Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, with tickets priced at an accessible $10.
The organizers aim to bridge community connections by highlighting the talents of both local and visiting artists. “It all began with a few of us art enthusiasts discussing how art can connect people and provide a platform for self-expression and community impact,” explained Kim Gaines.
The event will embrace a French café ambiance, complete with espresso, small coffee tables, and cozy conversation corners. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from up-and-coming artist Shannon Bush and well-known author and artist Karen Buster. Additionally, Russell Joe Brown will not only perform but also lead insightful discussions with the artists.
“This is a passion of mine, and the women involved are truly inspiring,” Gaines remarked. “We’re bringing together artisans from various backgrounds, each with their unique story, showcasing the interconnectedness of our community. These remarkable women are sure to captivate everyone.”
Co-organizer Lurelia Hardy emphasized the value of the intimate setting, which allows guests to engage directly with the artists. “Visitors can appreciate the artwork, browse books, get them signed, and even have their artworks autographed, offering a personal experience with the creators,” Hardy noted.
All proceeds will go toward supporting outreach activities at the hosting church. Gaines said the event is a community effort. “We’re not doing it for any money for ourselves. Since the church was so gracious to allow us to set up this intimate experience, we’re going to give some of the proceeds to them so they can fund their own outreach activities,” Gaines said.
