Experience the Magic: Monticello's Holiday GLOW Lights Up the Season

In Monticello, Illinois, organizers of the popular Holiday GLOW event recently joined Taylor Mitchell from WCIA 3 in the studio to discuss this cherished seasonal celebration.

Each year, a collaborative effort between the University of Illinois Community Credit Union and Allerton Park brings to life a magical one-mile walk through the enchanting grounds of Allerton.

Derek Peterson, representing Allerton Park and Retreat, explained that while the light installations begin in October, the meticulous planning for this event starts months in advance.

“It’s a fantastic family outing,” Peterson noted, highlighting the event’s appeal to people of all ages.

Lisa Paul, with the University of Illinois Community Credit Union, said she and her family make sure to attend every single year.

“I told Derek, ‘I want to create a holiday tradition’ and that’s exactly what his team did,” Paul said. “The amount of lights that they’re able to put up in the park is incredible.”

The Holiday Glow will be open from 5-9 p.m. from Dec. 5-6, 7-23 and 26-31. Opening weekend will cost $10 per person. After that, it’ll cost $10 per vehicle.
