DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Summer is all about getting outside, and there’s a new place in Decatur where you can be active a dozen different ways.
Fairview Park has everything families need: a sports area, jungle gyms, exercise equipment and more. The $1.5 million project is now finished. It has a 40-yard dash that times you, an obstacle course so you can pretend you’re a ninja warrior and circuit training so you can get in a workout.
Dozens of families came out for the ribbon cutting ceremony to see all this new park has to offer. Some local parents and children said they love the finished project.
“This is enclosed, so their confident when they go up,” said Brittany Wentworth. “But then this climbing equipment, how tall it is, my bigger kids can go up there no problem and it’s something they can enjoy, and they don’t feel like their playing with the little kids just to help out at a park.”
That’s important to Wentworth, who has a five- and 11-year-old. She said she’ll be coming to Fairview Park more often now because it’s more of an open space.
The park district said they’ll be adding a bicycle skill course. It’ll focus on teaching kids the rules of the bike trail. They’re hoping it’ll be finished by the end of summer.
