(NEXSTAR) – John Capodice, an actor known for his appearances in “General Hospital,” “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” and “Seinfeld,” among scores of other TV series and films, has died.

News of Capodice’s death on Monday was publicly announced in an obituary posted by the Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, New Jersey.

Capodice was 83.

“John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him,” the obituary reads.

Capodice, a prolific character actor, has well over 150 credits to his name on IMDb extending from 1978 to 2024. Among the many shows he’s appeared in, Capodice had recurring roles in “Ryan’s Hope,” “General Hospital,” “Diagnosis Murder” and “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” Other shows he appeared in include “Spencer: For Hire,” “Moonlighting,” “Murphy Brown,” “Law & Order,” “Living Single,” “Melrose Place,” “Mad About You,” “Boy Meets World” and “Will & Grace.” Fans of “Seinfeld” may also remember Capodice from the 1991 episode “The Revenge,” in which he played the owner of a laundromat that Kramer attempted to sabotage, believing Capodice’s character to have stolen $1,500 from a laundry bag.

No stranger to the big screen, Capodice’s movie credits include “Wall Street,” “Family Business,” “The Doors,” “Speed,” “Independence Day” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” the latter of which placed him in scenes opposite Jim Carrey.

His obituary further noted that he was a veteran of the U.S. military, having served with the Army during the Korean War.

A mass “celebrating John’s life” is being held this weekend, the obituary says. The funeral home did not provide a cause of death for Capodice.
