Fans Rally to Support Mike Evans' Foundation with Generous $13,000 Donations Following Injury

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Amidst disappointment for Tampa Bay followers, a silver lining emerges from a challenging situation.

Following an unfortunate injury to wide receiver Mike Evans during the Buccaneers’ matchup with the Lions, the Mike Evans Family Foundation began receiving an influx of donations late Monday night.

Evans sustained a concussion and a fractured collarbone, sidelining him for the majority of the remaining season, according to coach Todd Bowles.

Having recently rejoined the team after being sidelined by a hamstring injury, the six-time Pro Bowler was visibly shaken as he was escorted off the field Monday night.

Fans began donating $13 to show their support for Evans, whose jersey number is 13, soon after he was sidelined, according to the Mike Evans Family Foundation.

The $13 for 13 movement has since taken over social media, and with 24 hours, fans donated over $13,000 dollars. That was as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the amount has likely climbed higher.

Evans established the foundation with his wife Ashli in December 2017. The Mike Evans Family Foundation has a mission of empowering youth and encouraging education, according to its website. The nonprofit also helps women who have been victims of domestic violence get back on their feet.

Fans have previously joined together to show their support for Evans and his foundation. In 2022, when Evans restructured his contract, people collectively donated over $50,000 to show their appreciation for the wide receiver.
