Driver dead after utility pole collision Friday

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. — In a tragic accident on Friday night, a driver lost his life after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Blue Jay Road.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) arrived at the site around 9 p.m. following the collision.

Authorities reported that the driver was heading west on Blue Jay Road when his car veered to the right, crossing Finch Lane before hitting the pole.

The driver, identified as 34-year-old Jacob Lane, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The ECSO’s Traffic Enforcement Unit has launched an investigation into the accident. Currently, the reason behind Lane’s departure from the road remains unclear.

It was later found that Lane’s dog, Roxy, was in the vehicle when the crash happened. A person found it and took care of the dog following the crash.

Roxy has been reunited with Lane’s family.
