ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Four people were killed and one suffered serious injuries in a crash late Saturday in Orange County which Florida Highway Patrol troopers say was caused by one car trying to overtake another.

According to an FHP crash report, a 2024 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of Central Florida Parkway — ahead of a 2024 BMW M2 heading in the same direction — before the crash occurred around 10:52 p.m. east of Whitley Place

The BMW, driven by a 26-year-old Orlando man with a 23-year-old Orlando woman riding as passenger, attempted to overtake the Camry, which carried a 20-year-old Kissimmee man driving with two passengers, an 18-year-old Windermere man and a male who has yet to be identified, troopers said.

While attempting to reenter the outside lane from the inside lane, the right side of the BMW struck the left side of the Camry, causing both cars to run off the roadway to the right and onto the south shoulder, the report states.

The front of the Camry struck a light pole before it continued south and hit several trees, troopers said. The Windermere man, who was riding as a rear passenger in the Camry, was ejected during the crash, according to FHP. Troopers believe the Windermere man was the only person involved in the crash who was not wearing a seat belt.

The BMW traveled in a southerly direction until its front left struck several trees as well, the report states.

The Kissimmee man who drove the Camry was hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, troopers said, adding his front passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The Orlando man who drove the BMW died at the scene while his passenger and the rear passenger of the Camry were both taken to a hospital where they were later pronounced dead, according to the report.

FHP is still investigating.
