KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The man accused of hitting and killing a jogger with his truck faced a judge on Friday.

On Wednesday, a woman was out for an early morning jog when the crash happened. Police say he took off and left the scene, but they were able to arrest him later.

Jairo Leonardo Pena Espana, 21, faced a judge on Friday afternoon.

The judge said, “On the first charge for leaving the scene of an accident with death, bond is set at $5000… On the second account for no valid driver’s license causing death or serious injury, bond is set at $1,000.”

He doesn’t live far from where the crash happened, or where the 40-year-old woman lived.

The deadly crash took place at 6:22 a.m. on Wednesday in their neighborhood on Florida Parkway, south of Birchwood Circle in Kissimmee. She leaves behind a grieving husband and children.

She was identified as Nahal Vafaei Azimi, according to an FHP arrest report.

A neighbor who lives near both the woman who died, and Espana spoke to News 6 and said she was devastated that one neighbor could do this.

“Maybe he was afraid that, you know, he would get in trouble that way, and he’s unlicensed. So, but I don’t know how you can justify anything other than stopping and helping. I mean, even if it wasn’t a blind spot, I mean, it, you know, it’s maybe not quote-unquote your fault because you didn’t see them, but just humanity got to tell you to stop.”

The community is left in shock following the tragic incident that claimed the life of a neighbor.
