One dead after 12 shot in mass shooting: North Carolina sheriff

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. (WJZY) — One person is dead after a reported mass shooting that left at least 12 people hurt in Hickory, North Carolina, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, law enforcement responded to reports of multiple people shot at a residence in the Mountain View community, about 60 miles north of Charlotte.

Officials said 12 victims have been reported; one of which was pronounced dead, one in critical condition, and several others still hospitalized.

As of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made, but investigators from the Hickory Police Department and special agents from the State Bureau of Investigation are working to establish a motive and to identify any suspects.
