EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A woman from Paris is dead after the Edgar County Coroner said her car slid off the road in icy conditions and flipped over Wednesday night.
The deadly crash happened near Paris on Lower Terre Haute Road, half a mile north of East 800th Road. Coroner Scott Barrett said 911 dispatchers received a call around 9 p.m. from someone who came across an upside-down car in the middle of the road. When first responders arrived, they found the driver of the car had been ejected from the vehicle and called the coroner.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, Barrett said, and he identified her as Karlie Parson, 28. The cause of her death was blunt force trauma.
Barrett said evidence at the scene of the crash indicated that Parson was driving south on Lower Terre Haute Road when she encountered icy road conditions. Her car left the road, entered the ditch, went back onto the road and then slid off again.
Parson’s car then hit a metal culvert and flipped over onto its rooftop. Parsons herself was thrown from her car and died from the injuries she sustained.
The crash and death remain under investigation by the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department and the Edgar County Coroner.
