AUGUSTA, Ga. () – FBI Atlanta has confirmed with NewsChannel 6 that the Bourbon Street attack suspect had ties to the Augusta area.
The ex-wife of 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar has already been interviewed by authorities. They say she and members of her family have all been cooperative during this time.
The FBI is investigating any connections Jabbar had to our area and interviewing people who may have known him.

According to FBI investigators, Jabbar, an Army veteran, worked alone when he drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers in New Orleans.
“This was an act of terrorism. It was premeditated and an evil act,” said Christopher Raia, deputy assistant director of the FBI’s counterterrorism division. Raia stated that Jabbar was inspired by the Islamic State.
