ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WJHL) — The federal trial of Sean Williams, an alleged serial rapist, convicted child sex offender, and former resident of downtown Johnson City, is set to commence on Monday in the U.S. District Court of Western North Carolina. Williams faces serious drug charges that could significantly add to his already lengthy prison sentence.

The charges involve the manufacturing, distribution, or dispensing of controlled substances, specifically methamphetamine and cocaine. If found guilty of the methamphetamine charges, Williams faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years. The cocaine-related charges carry a maximum possible sentence of 20 years. The discovery of these drugs in April 2023 played a pivotal role in leading to Williams’s subsequent sex-related charges.

A separate trial concerning child sex abuse material, allegedly found in Williams’s possession at the same time as the drug discovery, has been delayed multiple times. However, it is expected to proceed during the court’s May term.

Williams is already serving a 95-year sentence for charges related to child sexual abuse material and an escape attempt. Additionally, he faces pending child rape charges in Washington County, Tennessee, and is likely to be charged for some of the more than 60 alleged sexual assaults against adult women. These assaults were reportedly uncovered on digital devices seized during his arrest in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
