SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Firefighters in Springfield are on the scene at the CWLP power plant, where a fire has ignited in one of the smokestacks.

On Tuesday morning, dense, black smoke was observed billowing from the CWLP facility. According to an update from Springfield’s firefighters’ union on Facebook, the fire broke out in an inactive smokestack, which has alleviated concerns about any potential exposures. The blaze has been successfully contained within the smokestack, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the power plant.
