Champaign Fire Department on scene at three-story apartment fire

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Fire crews are still on scene at a multi-family apartment complex fire in Champaign.

At approximately 10:41 a.m., the Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in the 2100 block of W White St. Crews are currently on scene working to extinguish any remaining hot spots.

Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a fire in this three-story apartment building. After arriving on scene, firefighters reported heavy fire coming from the third floor and extending into the attic.

Crews then identified the structure as condemned and quickly extended multiple hose lines to work to extinguish the fire. Firefighters encountered heavy fire while searching the building and fighting the fire. A second alarm was called, and fire crews exited the building in a defensive strategy.

At this time, the cause of the fire is not yet determined as investigators remain on scene conducting their investigation. There have been no firefighter injuries reported.
