SANFORD, Fla. – On Wednesday morning, commuters on Interstate 4 in Seminole County encountered an unexpected obstacle that is rare in Florida’s typically warm climate.

Believe it or not, ice—actual frozen water—had formed on the westbound lanes near Sanford, necessitating immediate action from road crews to scrape it away and ensure the safety of drivers.

The ice formation caused significant traffic slowdowns, bringing vehicles almost to a standstill just past mile marker 103. The icy patch spanned an area of at least 10 square feet across the three-lane highway, creating a surprising challenge for those on the road.

As officials diligently worked to clear the icy patch, they advised drivers to merge left. Their efforts were focused not only on removing the ice but also on monitoring the situation in case more ice developed.

The cause of the ice is yet to be unveiled, however, it’s truly a testimony to the true extent of the cold weather invading Central Florida.
