Florida Driver’s Desperate 911 Call: Harrowing Rescue After Crash into Pond Unfolds

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — “Please help me.”

These were the frantic words of a driver whose car veered into a retention pond in Hillsborough County last week. As the water steadily rose inside the vehicle, panic set in.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has since shared both the 911 call audio and the body camera footage from the dramatic April 5 rescue.

“I’m in the lake. I’m gonna drown. I don’t know how to swim. Please, I’m gonna drown,” the driver urgently communicated to the dispatchers.
