On December 20th, a routine evening in Jacksonville’s Arlington neighborhood took a violent turn when an argument erupted at a rental home party, resulting in five people being shot. Officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were quick to respond to the scene, which had been the site of a short-term rental event gone awry.

In the aftermath of the incident, the sheriff’s office swiftly acted, leading to the arrest of 19-year-old Kenshawn Prentice. Authorities had secured an arrest warrant linking Prentice to the unfortunate events of the night.

The altercation, which escalated rapidly between two opposing groups, led to Prentice allegedly discharging multiple rounds, hitting five individuals. Among the injured, one person suffered several gunshot wounds, underscoring the severity of the situation.

Despite the gravity of their injuries, the sheriff’s office has assured that all victims, who were rushed to nearby hospitals, are expected to recover. This assurance comes as a relief to the community shaken by the violent episode.

All victims were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment, and the sheriff’s office said they are expected to survive despite “serious” injuries.

Investigators secured Prentice’s arrest warrant for five counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm, JSO said.

On Tuesday, members of the JSO SWAT Team and the U.S. Marshall Task Force located Prentice on Sibbald Road and surrounded the house, taking him into custody.

JSO released a video on Facebook of Prentice outside of a county jail without shoes or a shirt while a deputy escorted him.

“Prentice is being booked into the Duval County Jail and will spend the holidays behind bars following his acts of violence, which could have easily left multiple people dead,” JSO said.
