In a disturbing case out of Coral Gables, Florida, a Miami-Dade resident has admitted guilt to heinous charges involving the distribution of videos showcasing the sexual torture and mutilation of baby monkeys. On Monday, Francisco Javier Ravelo, aged 36, confessed to his role in this crime, as confirmed by the Department of Justice.

The charges against Ravelo stem from activities dating back to October, where he orchestrated online chat groups to circulate over 40 gruesome and explicit videos. These videos depicted both baby and adult monkeys suffering from mutilation and burning, acts classified under the term “animal crushing.”

U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida expressed deep concern over the case, highlighting its disturbing nature. “As someone with a background in domestic violence cases, I can identify the warning signs of escalating violence. Deliberate cruelty to animals is a significant red flag, reflecting a disturbing capacity for domination, torture, and inflicting suffering without remorse,” Quiñones stated. He emphasized that Ravelo’s actions, which extended beyond mere viewing to the creation and administration of groups dedicated to these abhorrent acts, contribute to a brutal market. Quiñones asserted that in the Southern District of Florida, such federal crimes will be prosecuted with unwavering resolve.

The Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, enacted under President Donald Trump’s administration, aims to eradicate the practice of “animal crushing.” This law targets acts of extreme cruelty performed on animals for sexual pleasure or shock value.

Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) reinforced the commitment to prosecuting those involved in such sadistic activities. “If you are involved in this sadistic activity, we will prosecute you,” Gustafson declared, underscoring the seriousness with which these crimes are treated.
