PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man murdered his own wife in front of their children Sunday in an argument over money and alleged infidelity, deputies said.
A probable cause affidavit from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said at about 7:24 p.m. Sunday, dispatchers got a 911 call from Rogelio Prestol, 46, who said he had just killed his wife.
The suspect told the sheriff’s office that he had unloaded the gun he used to kill her and placed it on a counter inside the family’s home. He also told deputies that his children were with him.
Detectives said when patrol deputies arrived, they took Prestol into custody without any problems. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Jhesandra Prestol, was found dead outside the home’s front door, lying on the walkway with gunshot wounds all over her body.

According to the affidavit, as deputies responded to the scene, one of the children said he saw Rogelio Prestol shoot his mother, saying “his ears hurt because he was really close” when the shooting happened.
After Rogelio Prestol was taken to the sheriff’s office, the suspect told a detective that “he deserves the death penalty and that he had killed his wife” before he was even asked any questions, the court document stated.
In Detective Josiah Pero’s affidavit, he wrote that Rogelio Prestol said he has suspicions of his wife cheating on him about two months before the shooting. He learned that his wife was speaking with someone on the social media apps TikTok and Telegram, but when he confronted her, she told him she wanted a divorce.
On Sunday, Jan. 26, Prestol confronted his wife again, saying he had concerns that she was sending money to this online person.
According to Pero, the confrontation escalated when the victim refused to show the suspect her bank account. In response, Rogelio Prestol got his 9mm pistol to threaten her into complying, the affidavit said.
The detective wrote that when the couple’s son saw the gun, he began pleading with his mother to comply, but she then tried to climb out the office window to escape.
“Rogelio began shooting at the victim, from within the Office,” Pero wrote. “Rogelio then moved to the front porch, where he continued to shoot the victim until he ran out of ammunition.”
The suspect never tried to render first aid to his wife because he “knew she was dead,” according to the detective.
The affidavit said after Rogelio Prestol killed his wife, he called his brother to tell him what happened and that he intended to kill himself, so he needed his brother to pick up the children. However, the suspect’s brother managed to talk him down and told him to call 911.
The suspect’s brother later picked up the chldren from the sheriff’s office and spoke with deputies, confirming the details of Prestol’s phone call.
Rogelio Prestol was charged with second-degree murder in his wife’s death. Due to the nature of the crime, prosecutors moved for the defendant to be detained without bond until his trial.
“There are no words to express how terrible this is or the impact it will have on so many lives,” Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell said. “The act itself is despicable, and only made worse by the fact that there were children in the home at the time. My heart breaks for them and for everyone who knew Jhesandra. Domestic violence of any kind is disgusting, and I pray that anyone who is experiencing it sees this and realizes that this is a possible outcome. To those people, please know that you are not alone and help is available. Don’t wait until this happens to you.”
