CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WFLA) – Florida police officers stepped in to make an unexpected delivery after a DoorDash driver accused of driving under the influence was arrested.
Cape Coral officers said they were called on Nov. 20 after receiving reports about a man appearing unconscious behind the wheel of a car stopped at a traffic light.
They found a man, later identified as Luis Angel Alania Estrella, “asleep and unresponsive” in a car.
“Officers determined that Estrella was under the influence and placed him under arrest for DUI,” Cape Coral officers said.
During the investigation, officers learned that Estrella was working as a DoorDash delivery driver and he “expressed concern over the undelivered food order in his possession.”
One of the officers decided to take the food order to its final destination.
“The actions of the officer helped ensure the resident received the meal safely and without unnecessary delay,” Cape Coral police said.
Estrella was also charged with driving with a suspended license and was later transported to the Lee County Jail, police said.
