In Orlando, Florida, a doctor has been sentenced to a two-year term in federal prison for administering silicone oil injections to his patients, as reported by WFLA.

The Department of Justice disclosed that from 2015 to 2019, Nhan Pham, a 55-year-old doctor specializing in cosmetic procedures, purchased silicone oil online for use in patient treatments.

Court records reveal that Pham used this silicone oil during gluteal and buttock enhancement surgeries, conducting these procedures both at his clinic and his home.

The FDA has not approved silicone oil for body enhancement or contouring purposes, issuing a warning about the illegal nature of silicone injections and the potential health hazards they pose.

Pham deceived his patients by falsely promoting the procedures and the injected substances as “natural” and “safe,” according to the release.

Overtime patients experienced complications including sharp and severe pain, discoloration, discomfort, itchiness, burning, soreness, inflammation, and hardness in the injection areas, according to DOJ.

On Sept. 24, 2019, Pham offered to perform silicone oil injections on an undercover law enforcement agent leading to his arrest.

Oh May 7, Phan pled guilty to receipt in interstate commerce and proffered delivery of an adulterated device, in violation of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

The sentencing was carried out by U.S. District Judge John Antoon II.
