LAKE ALFRED, Fla. – Authorities in Polk County apprehended a substitute teacher on a DUI charge in the parking lot of a local school on Tuesday morning, as reported by the sheriff’s office.
At Lake Alfred Polytech Academy, a school resource officer noticed 44-year-old Micah Alan Dyal from Haines City as he tried to reverse his vehicle out of a parking space.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office noted that Dyal exhibited “several clear indicators of impairment,” such as a pronounced odor of alcohol on his breath, during the administration of a field sobriety test.
According to the sheriff’s office, Dyal agreed to a blood draw, and the sample will be analyzed to determine his blood alcohol content.
In response to his arrest, Polk County Public Schools issued a statement addressing the incident:
We commend our school staff for noticing that something was off, and not allowing this individual to proceed to the classroom yesterday. What a terrible decision and unacceptable behavior from someone working on a campus. This person will no longer have any involvement with PCPS.
