ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Floridians should be ready to rock for a variety of weather impacts and threats not only Saturday and Sunday but especially through the middle portions of the upcoming week.

Future radar shows the tornado potential for central Florida and some isolated thunderstorms that could get strong (WKMG 2025)

Our first deep plunge of arctic air is on its way, slated to arrive tomorrow morning and roll through during the afternoon. Along the leading edge, we have the forces in play to produce lots of rain and potential severe thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center also has us under the low-end tornado designation, which means an isolated weak tornado or two can’t be ruled out.

Because of the rainfall, storm, and cold air threats we face tomorrow we’ve designated as an inconvenient weather day (WKMG 2025)

As a result, we’ve highlighted it as an inconvenient weather day that could heavily influence the way you structure your Sunday from start to finish.

It will also be WINDY! Because of how thick and dense this new arctic air is, winds before and after the front arrives will be gusty. On average, outside of our showers and potential storms, Florida could see 25-30 mph gusts on occasion.

Regardless of how the weather impacts arrive at your doorstep, winds will be going up across Florida before and after the cold front comes through (WKMG 2025)

This swath of frontal action should clear out closer to 7-8 p.m. The winds following closely behind the front will also enhance our wind chill factor, helping our northernmost counties feel well below freezing as we start the MLK holiday and ring in inauguration day.

Stick with me, it gets even juicier from here. With the colder temps in play, as our next storm system starts to fuel up in the western Gulf of Mexico, we’re watching for the possibility of some WINTER STORM effects for north Florida.

Yes, you read that correct, winter storm, which includes ice, sleet, slight risk for freezing rain, and a dusting of SNOW!

Ensemble models, which are a group of individual computer models, are agreeing there are chances for some winter impacts and SNOW in our northern viewing counties. (WKMG 2025)

What is going on in Florida these days? Is this a sign of what’s to come the rest of the year?

On Tuesday we’ll be seeing the development of our Gulf of Mexico low pressure which will also up our general rain chances through the day into Wednesday and early Thursday. All-in-all, winter impacts aside, a significant uptick in our rain coverage is very likely. Anywhere from an inch or two could pile up across the peninsula as the system crosses perpendicular to us.

Rain chances are looking very Florida but the temperatures not so much with these two upcoming cold punches (WKMG 2025)

Stick with your pinpoint weather team over the next few days and track these weather impacts together with us, because Mother Nature will keep us all bobbing and weaving for the days ahead!
