According to The Hill, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, who served as a cardiologist to the late former Vice President Dick Cheney, has urged Congress to investigate President Donald Trump’s capability to serve in office.
Reiner, who also contributes as a medical analyst for CNN, pointed to a recent letter sent by Trump to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. In the letter, Trump seemingly connected his desire to purchase Greenland with his disappointment over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
“This letter, and the fact that the president directed that it be distributed to other European countries, should trigger a bipartisan congressional inquiry into presidential fitness,” Reiner wrote on the social platform X.Â
Trump’s message, which was shared with multiple European ambassadors, questioned why Denmark has a “right of ownership” over Greenland, a semiautonomous Arctic territory rich in minerals and seen as key to security in the region.Â
Trump’s continued efforts to acquire Greenland despite pushback from European allies have raised alarm in and out of the country.Â
“The president of the United States is extremely mentally ill and it’s putting all of our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason—we need to invoke it immediately,” Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) said in an X post, sharing the letter to Støre.
Reiner has previously raised questions about the president’s health and regimen. Last month, he said Trump’s aspirin regimen, which was detailed to the Wall Street Journal, “makes no sense.”
Meanwhile, Trump has shrugged off concerns about his health and fitness. The president also wrote on Truth Social earlier this month that he was in “perfect health” and “aced” a cognitive exam for the third consecutive time.
