Former San Diego socialite Elizabeth A. Broderick, widely known as Betty Broderick, has passed away at the age of 78. Broderick, who gained notoriety for the 1989 murders of her ex-husband and his new wife, died in a prison medical facility, officials confirmed.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced that Broderick died early Friday morning. Although the initial determination points to natural causes, the official cause of death will be established by the San Bernardino County Coroner.
Broderick had been moved from the California Institution for Women to an external medical facility on April 18 to receive more intensive care. She was serving a 32-year-to-life sentence for two counts of second-degree murder.
