MIAMI (WJHL) — A Tennessee man who had fostered around 20 children was arrested in Florida after authorities found child pornography on his phone after returning from a cruise with his family, according to court documents.
Jason Alan Miller, 48, was arrested and charged with transportation of child pornography and possession of child pornography.
According to an affidavit filed in federal court, Miller returned to the U.S. at Port Miami on Saturday after a cruise to the Cayman Islands on the Carnival Horizon cruise ship.
After arriving, Miller was reportedly selected for secondary inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers.
CBP officers inspected Miller’s personal property, including a Samsung Galaxy cell phone after Miller provided the passcode to unlock the device, according to the affidavit.
While searching the device “pursuant to border search authority,” officers found several photos of suspected child sexual abuse material in the device’s saved Google Photos application in a folder named “telegram,” according to the affidavit.
A special agent with Homeland Security Investigations reported observing a screenshot of a folder named “6yo_rare” that contained multiple photos of child sexual abuse material.
The affidavit states Miller admitted to knowing that there was child pornography on his device.
Miller was reportedly traveling with his pregnant wife and eight children, aged five through 12, seven of whom were adopted by Miller and had previously been foster children in the Miller household.
The affidavit states that Miller had fostered around 20 children at his home over the past seven years.
Miller was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service and booked into the Broward County Jail on Saturday, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
