SAVANNAH, Ga. — An officer-involved shooting unfolded Saturday afternoon at Frazier Homes, situated on the 600 block of Emerald Drive near May Street.

Mayor Van Johnson of Savannah reported that Savannah Police Department officers responded to a situation at Frazier Homes around 2:40 p.m. Mayor Johnson stated that during the incident, three officers engaged in a “use of force” situation, which resulted in one civilian sustaining injuries.

An officer-involved shooting took place at Frazier Homes on Saturday, resulting in one civilian suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

The injured individual was promptly taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, as the injuries were not life-threatening, according to Johnson. Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the encounter.

“We’re certainly relieved that the situation wasn’t more severe,” Johnson remarked.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been called in to assist and will take the lead in the ongoing investigation of this event.

“If our officers were justified in using deadly force, we will stand by our officers,” Johnson said. “If our officers failed in either policy or law in terms of using deadly force, we will hold them accountable.”

Over a dozen Savannah Police vehicles were present at the scene, including the SPD’s Forensic Unit, Chatham EMS and Savannah Fire. Savannah Mayor Van Johnson and SPD Chief Lenny Gunther are also on scene.

Witnesses at the scene told there were multiple shots fired at the scene.
