TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — It was an emotional day as students made their way back on campus, walking up to the student union and reliving the tragedy from Thursday’s mass shooting that injured six people and killed two others.

Students shared mixed emotions about what lies ahead with graduation and finals right around the corner, with classes set to resume on Monday, April 12th.

“It was around 11:30 a.m. when I had gotten up and started my day and around 12:00 p.m. is when the first alert hit and I didn’t think it was real,” Andres Cubillos, FSU Graduate Student.

Confusion and disappointment filled the streets at Florida State University as students tried their best to prepare for class in a few short days.

University President Richard McCullough shared in a post on X that classes and business operations will resume on Monday, and while students stress concerns with that decision, McCullough promises the university and its staff will be flexible for those who may not be able to return.

“I know this will not feel like a typical week, it’s the last one before finals and many of you are still processing what happened, we understand that, and we understand that some of you may not be able to return on Monday. It’s okay,” said McCullough.

Even with the flexibility from the university, students say they will always remember that Thursday afternoon.

“For those two hours it felt like my world was going to come down. This campus community that I have been a part of for so many years was torn apart,” said Cubillos.
