ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) — It’s been 15 years since the tragic death of Tammy Walsh. She was the St. Joseph-Ogden High School cheer coach who was killed when a power pole fell on her at a football game in 2010.

Now, friends and family are continuing the tradition of honoring her legacy. They held a memorial fundraiser Friday night ahead of the SJO boys’ basketball game. All proceeds from the silent auction, 50/50 raffle and clothing sales went to scholarships in her name for two St. Joseph-Ogden seniors.

“We care deeply about this town of St. Joe and especially the kids here,” said Rylee Walsh, Tammy’s Daughter. “Our mom was a cheer coach here actually when she passed away, so she was somebody that always gave back to the community, helped the kids here, that’s just something we want to be a part of. We really, really care about this community. They helped us so much in our time of need, so we want to help them the best way we can.”

Rylee said the plan is to bring back the scholarship every year moving forward.
