ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — On Saturday morning, a significant number of children and teenagers underwent early heart examinations at Galen Nursing College. This initiative was spearheaded by a Florida nonprofit aiming to combat the leading cause of death on school grounds.
“Sudden cardiac arrest is a stealthy threat,” explained Krysti Jonas, who oversees heart screenings for the nonprofit Who We Play For. “Many individuals show no symptoms, and in 80% of cases, the first indication is the sudden onset of cardiac arrest.”
