WILKES COUNTY, Ga. () – A former employee of the Wilkes County School System has been arrested for improper sexual contact, the school system confirmed on Monday.

Bonnie Elizabeth Brown, age 25 of White Plains, Ga., was arrested and charged with Improper Sexual Contact by an Employee, Agent, or Foster Parent. The charges stem from an investigation at a previous school where she had taught in Greene County.

The Wilkes County School System released a statement on Monday, saying officials were not aware of Brown’s arrest until after she was taken into custody. Brown was a teacher at the Washington-Wilkes County Primary School. School officials confirmed she was no longer employed as of March 24.

On June 14, 2024, Greene County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate allegations of sexual contact between a student and a former Nathanael Greene Academy teacher in Siloam, Georgia. The GBI’s investigation led them to arrest Brown, who was booked into the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Jail.

“While we understand that the circumstances leading to these charges occurred prior to her employment with Wilkes County School, we are fully prepared to cooperate with the GBI in their ongoing investigation and any legal proceedings,” the school system stated.

According to the GBI, the investigation is ongoing. Those with information are encouraged to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 453-3351 or the GBI regional investigative office in Milledgeville at (478) 445-4173. Anonymous tips can also be submitted online.
