SAVANNAH, Ga. — Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia announced on Friday that she will be stepping down from her position in Congress. This decision comes just a week after she experienced a highly publicized dispute with former President Donald Trump.

The rift between Greene and Trump emerged after she backed a discharge petition aimed at compelling a vote on legislation that would require the Department of Justice to release documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Greene was among four Republicans to endorse this petition.

On November 14, Trump took to Truth Social to withdraw his support for Greene. “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene of the Great State of Georgia,” he posted, criticizing her for what he described as constant complaints.

Trump further lambasted Greene, labeling her as a “ranting lunatic” and calling her actions a “disgrace” to the Republican Party. In response, Greene fired back on the same platform, accusing Trump of attacking her unjustly, claiming his reaction to the Epstein files issue pushed him over the edge.

“Standing up for American women who were victimized as young as 14, trafficked, and exploited by powerful men should not lead to being branded a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I have supported,” Greene stated in her resignation announcement on Friday.

Greene has supported served the 14th District of Georgia, located in Northwest Georgia, for five years. She said the treatment she has received isn’t fair to her constituents and she did not want her “sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President.”

“My only goal and desire has ever been to hold the Republican Party accountable for the promises it makes to the American people and put America First, and I have fought against Democrat’s damaging policies like the Green New Deal, wide open deadly unsafe border policies, and the trans agenda on children and against women,” Greene said on X. “With that has brought years of nonstop never-ending person attacks, death threats, lawfare, ridiculous slander and lies about me, that most people could never withstand even for a day. It has been unfair and wrong, not only to me and especially my family, but to my district as well.”

She said she will be resigning from office with her last day being Jan. 5, 2026.
